PlayaPup Warming Heated Beds – Full Review
While owning a new heated cat bed is something that sound appealing at first, it can be a little bit of a minefield. If you buy a new expensive heated bed for your cat, then there is always the chance that they will not like it at all and will spend a lot of time wanting to sleep in their old bed. Luckily, there is a way of keeping an old cat bed while still helping your cat to keep warm and comfortable.
PlayaPup is one of the leading companies on the market right now when it comes to heated mats. Their range of products have become very popular. But how can you know which of their heated mats is right for you? And how can you know which mat is more appealing for your cats? Here we will look at two of the most popular heated mats from PlayaPup and we will try and answer some questions you may have in order to help you decide which is right for you.
PlayaPup Pup Warmer Heating Dog Mat
While the previous heated mat we looked at is very helpful for keeping an older cat happy, this mat is much more of an all-rounder. This mat is available in small, medium and large which means that it is able to suit almost any domestic situation. Not only does it mean you can find a size of mat that is perfect for a certain part of your home, but it also means that you will be able to find a mat that is able to suit either a house with several kittens or even a home with several full grown adult cats. Just like the mat we have looked at previously, this mat has a pressure system, which means that it activates whenever your cat climbs on top and decides to get comfortable. This mat is also able to reach a temperature that has been approved by veterinarians, so then the mat is able to get nice and warm but not warm enough that it makes it uncomfortable for your cat.
This mat is also very easy to maintain and keep running for a very long time. The cover that comes with the heated mat is made from a thin soft material, which means that your cat will be able to sit down and get comfortable on a soft surface without hindering the heat from rising through and reaching your cat. The fleece cover is also suitable for placing in a washing machine, which means that all you have to do is remove the cover and wash it in order to keep it clean. If you are able to do that at least once every two weeks then this heated mat will be able to last longer and stay looking in good condition for longer as well.
The only real downside to this heated mat is that many people have complained that it doesn’t last for very long. Some customers have even said that the mat lasted them less than 30 days. It does seem however that these people have tended to leave their heated mats plugged in at all times and the heating systems have burnt out. If you want to avoid this, then you simply need to just use the mat whenever your cats are in the house. This way the mat should last you a long time, while still keeping your cat warm and comfortable whenever they are inside the house.
“The other mat was suitable enough to be used outdoors. Is this one?”
It isn’t really stated anywhere that this heated mat is suitable to be used outside, so it is probably not advised that you put it outside in open air. You can however probably use it if you have a covered porch outside, for example. Generally speaking, as long as the mat is under some sort of cover while it is outside then it should be able to work fine. As long as you make sure there is absolutely no risk of it ever getting caught in the rain or any other bad weather, then it should be okay. Like the other mat we looked at, this heated mat has a long electrical cord that can stretch over four feet. This means you should be able to get the mat outside without having to strain to get from the plug socket to the outdoors.
“How do I know which size of mat is the best for me?”
It is not very difficult to figure out which size of mat you will need for your domestic situation. You should purchase the small mat if you have just one kitten or adult cat that likes to have its own little space. The small mat is also able to sit in the corner of the room without really getting in the way. The medium sized mat would a good idea if you have a few kittens and an adult cat, or even a couple of fully grown adult cats that really like to sleep in the same bed. There are many cats that like to snuggle up to one another while they are in bed, so that is something that you also have to take into consideration. The large mat is something that really is reserved for the situations that involve a large number of cats. If you have quite a few kittens, or several fully grown adult cats and they all like to snuggle up together, then the large mat could be exactly what you are looking for.
PlayaPup Warming Heated Mat for 16-Inch Diameter Cats/Dogs
This particular mat looks quite traditional on the surface when it comes to heated cat mats, but this one actually has a lot more to offer than that. Like many heated mats, it is designed to reach an approved temperature by veterinarians whenever a cat decides to get comfy. As soon as they climb on top, the heat will start radiating through so then they are able to get settled down and comfortable quicker. Not only that, but this heated mat is able to release heat at a temperature that will sooth any aching bones or muscles. This means that this mat is ideal for an older cat that is possibly suffering from arthritis, or even just to help them deal with the aches and pains that come with old age.
This mat cat be used in a cat bed that you currently own, or you can even use it just by itself. The best thing to do is see how your cat prefers the mat to be positioned so then it can get comfortable on its own terms. This is particularly helpful when it comes to taking care of an older cat that may not want to be climbing in and out of a bed. If it finds climbing into beds too difficult, then having this heated mat on the floor could be exactly what they are looking for. They could then be free to settle down comfortably without having to strain struggling bones or muscles.
Quite a few people who have bought this mat however have said that they did not think it was working properly, mainly because they felt that the mat was not warming up very much. In most cases however, even when the mat did not feel very warm to human touch it was very appealing to the cats and they were still willing to sit down and get comfortable. This is because what is considered a strong heat for a cat is actually only a minor warmth when it comes to human touch. It is a little misleading as the heated mat does not state that this is the case when it is purchased, but it is still something to keep in mind. If you touch the mat and feels only a little warm, that probably means that it is working completely fine and that you have nothing to worry about.
“I would like the pad to be pre-heated before my cat lies down. Is this possible?”
It is totally understandable that you might want the heated mat to be ready heated before your cat gets comfortable. If your cat is a little old for example, you will want your cat to be able to get comfortable with as little hassle as possible. Luckily with this heated mat, you are able to set it up so then it can start warming up before your cat decides to have a lie down. The only thing you will need to think about is timing, unless of course you are planning on having it plugged in and heated at all times.
“Is the electrical cord long enough for me to use this cat mat outside?”
A large number of people like to use their heated mats outside so then there cats are able to keep warm even while they are sleeping outside braving the elements. As long as the mat is under cover at all times, then using it outside is fine. The electrical cord is roughly four feet long, which means that you should be able to use it in any location around your home. If you find however that the electrical cord is not able to reach where you want the heated mat to go, then you can always use an extension cord in order to make it reach further. In any case, you should be able to keep your heated mat wherever you want to keep it around the house.
“Can you place a cover on top of the heated mat?”
Placing a cover on top of the heated mat is normally not a problem, but it really does depend on how thick the cover is. If it is on thick side, then it could lead to problems with the heat coming through. The mat may have difficulty in detecting when your cat is lying down, thus making it difficult for the heating system to turn on. Not only that, but it can also stop most of the heat from being able to rise up and make your cat comfortable. If however you have a thin cover, then you should be fine. If you are using a thing cover the heated mat should still be able to work properly without any problems. You will probably have to keep an eye on it though just make sure that it is working okay.
Finding good quality cat heating mats is something that can be quite difficult to do right now. This is why it is so refreshing when a company like PlayaPup comes along and decides to make the whole thing look simple and very appealing. Their mats do exactly what they say on the tin and they are able to provide your cats a great deal of warmth and comfort. Their mat is able to take care of older cats that are suffering from arthritis or sore muscles really is the big winner here. Not only is the mat able to keep younger cats and kittens warm, but it can also help sooth an older cat that is struggling with its day-to-day life. The rest of the mats offered by PlayaPup are ideal for almost any domestic situation, so you are almost guaranteed to find something you are looking for when you decide to make them your destination for heated cat mats.
