Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box – Full Review
Pet Zone has longed been considered one of the companies at the forefront of the manufacturing of cat products. They have continued that trend with the Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box which helps take the hassle of cleaning the cat litter out of your hands, while helping to save you time and money at the same time. Here we will look at the reasons for and against buying the Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box, and we’ll help you figure out if it is the ideal cat litter tray for you and your cat.
The Positives
Good Value For Money: One of the problems with some of the self cleaning litter boxes available is that they all require specific refills and replacements that often cost a lot of money. With this self-cleaning litter tray however, the only thing that you need to buy is the low cost replacement plastic bags that are used to hold the cat’s waste. Apart from that, you are free to buy whichever cat litter you please. This will go a long way to helping your cat get used to the new tray, as finding their usual litter there will make them a lot more comfortable to do their business in new surroundings.
Sensory Cleaning System: Many of the self-cleaning litter trays come with timers that you have to set up manually. These often involve trying to estimate how often your cat will use the tray, which is not always an easy thing to do. With this tray, there is no need to worry at all. This litter box comes with a sensor that detects when your cat has climbed inside to use the toilet. When the cat leaves the tray, the timer will count down from 15 minutes, and then it will start to clear the waste away into the plastic tray.
Very Quiet: The problem with a wide range of electronic self-cleaning litter trays is that they can make a lot of noise. This can be particularly annoying, particularly if your cat decides it wants to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. With the Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box however, you will find that when the cat’s waste is being cleared away, it moves very quietly. In most cases, you will not be able to hear it when you are in another room.
The Negatives
Wide Gaps In the Grill: If you have a kitten, then you may find that this tray presents a little difficulty. The gaps in the grill that clear the used litter away are quite wide, which means that some smaller clumps of waste may be left behind. This is also true when it comes to pieces of litter that have been urinated on. In most cases, the grill should be able to clear all of the used litter away. However, if you have a kitten or a cat that tends to leave small amounts of waste when they pay a visit, you may have to check on it to make sure it is working effectively.
Litter Being Spread Around: Another fault with the wide grill is that it can result in cat faces getting caught up in the large gaps. This can result in the waste being spread around the tray instead of being cleared away into the disposing area. This can cause quite a foul smell, so again this is something that needs to be checked regularly. If you are still not satisfied, then you should call Pet Zone and tell them about your problem. They have recently redesigned their grill, and should be able to send out a replacement one for you quickly.
Expensive Litter Box: Compared to some of the other self-cleaning litter boxes available on the market right now, this the Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box is probably one of the more expensive models. If you are planning on buying this litter tray, you should do everything you can to make sure that it is the right one for you. On the positive side, the fact that you can buy whichever brand of litter you want is something that can save you money in the long run.
Frequently Asked Questions
“Can you use other plastic bags instead of the ones that come with the litter box?”
Yes, you can use other plastic bags. The bags that come with the litter tray are very effective, and you can get replacement bags from Pet Zone if you would rather use those. But yes, you can use other plastic bags that you have lying around the house. This is another good reason why this presents more value for money that other self-cleaning litter trays do.
“Does this litter tray come with a hood? If not, can it be bought separately?”
The Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box does not come with a hood, and up until this point, Pet Zone have not yet made a special hood that you can buy separately. If your cat is not willing to use the litter tray unless it has a hood, this tray could present a few problems.
“How often does it need cleaning?”
This is something that really depends on how many cats are living in your home. If you have just one cat, then you will probably be okay to clean it out every four or five days. If you have two or three cats, then you may need to empty is every two or three days. It is something that ultimately can be decided by the owner. Pet Zone does not give any indication on how often it should be emptied, so it’s best to do it whenever you think it is necessary.
Conclusion
Compared to other self-cleaning litter boxes on the market, this is probably one of the quietest models. It also represents great value for money, considering that you do not need to buy any form of refill if you use your usual brand of cat litter and regular plastic bags for the waste disposal area. If you are comfortable paying a comparatively large sum of money for the tray, then the Pet Zone Smart Scoop Automatic Litter Box is one of the best available right now.

I would not recommend this box. I purchased it from Amazon 3 months ago and the rack gear teeth have already broken. For such a expensive item you would think that the product would be better. Litter Maid has been better for me as it has lasted well over 7 years both times I have purchased the item.
